The University of Western Australia (UWA, 西澳大学) International Student Award takes 10% off tuition fees for the standard full-time duration of the course you accept. There is no fixed dollar figure, because the saving depends entirely on your course's annual tuition. To estimate it, take the annual tuition shown on the UWA fee page for your course, multiply by 10%, then multiply by the number of standard full-time years.

The formula

Annual tuition × 10% × standard full-time years of the accepted course

UWA does not publish a single tuition number that covers every program, and the terms do not list fee amounts. Look up your specific course on the UWA fee page, then run the three steps above. If a course costs the same each year, the result is simply 10% of the total tuition. If fees rise in later years, apply 10% to each year separately and add them.

How long the discount runs

The award follows the standard full-time duration of the course you are admitted to — not a fixed "three years undergraduate, two years postgraduate" rule.

That last row matters: adding Honours extends the discount, while an assured pathway into a postgraduate degree does not.

Reduced load and transfers

If UWA approves a reduced load for medical or family reasons, the discount period stretches by up to two semesters so the 10% still covers the same study. A course transfer is different — you keep whichever duration is shorter, the original course or the new one, so switching to a longer program does not buy extra semesters of discount.

Do you qualify?

The award is assessed automatically when you apply for admission; there is no separate application, and it appears in your offer letter. You must accept within 30 days of the offer.

Eligibility requires international student status on subclass 500 or another visa with study rights, an eligible AQF undergraduate, combined or postgraduate coursework course in the UWA Handbook, and full-time enrolment unless UWA approves an exception. The eligible citizenship list covers 27 countries, including China. Whether Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan passports fall under that entry is not stated in the terms — confirm with UWA directly.

Excluded courses include the Doctor of Medicine 91850, Doctor of Dental Medicine 91860, Doctor of Optometry 91590, Juris Doctor 20820, and undergraduate offers that include an assured pathway to the MD or DMD.

To keep the award you need satisfactory progress, a WAM of 60, and twice-yearly eligibility confirmation. It cannot be combined with other UWA tuition fee reductions or academic scholarships, except the UWA English Language Award; where you qualify for more than one, the higher-value one is granted.
